Objective
A major football game-day destination, this segment of NW 1st Avenue consists of a mixture of land-uses including student housing, commercial businesses, religious institutions, and fraternities. A constrained right-of-way required creative design thinking to accommodate multiple streetscape elements as prioritized by stakeholders such as: pedestrian facilities, landscaping, lighting, parking (vehicular, scooter, and bicycle), undergrounding utilities, solid waste, and delivery vehicle access. A significant aspect of the project was the coordination and inclusion of undergrounding overhead utility facilities. The resulting design is an organized and efficient layout for a multi-functioning corridor that includes utility and infrastructure upgrades, increased on-street parking, street trees, pedestrian accommodations, decorative lighting, bicycle parking, dumpster enclosures, and trash and recycling receptacles.
